When to go

The most popular time is of course during the summer season.

However, winter, spring, and autumn are also glorious times to go, with some colourful local festivals and of course less crowds.

Gardeners world …

In May the garden at the tower is a paradise full of wild orchids and other flowers which attract colourful variety of butterflies. A botanist’s heaven!

There is plenty of good shopping, and of course the charming tower makes a perfect winter honeymoon choice.

The swimming pool

When not sunbathing or lounging by the pool, a shady corner is sometimes appreciated when it’s hot.

Summer

It is perfectly possible to enjoy swimming in the pool from May till mid October.

Autumn

And of course wine lovers will enjoy the vendange in September and October. Wine tasting goes on all year round and the tower is well placed for vineyard visits.

Pumpkin festival

Apart from the vendange and glorious autumn colours, the pumpkin festival at St Mayme offers a feast of delights.

The tower in winter

Snow is rare in this part of the countryside, but the frosty winter sun casts a magical glow over the property

Winter

For a winter retreat, Perigord has much to offer: all the markets, restaurants and exhibitions remain well frequented – Perigueux’s winter truffle and goose markets are renowned.

The winter markets of Perigord are just as varied as the summer ones, with delights such as truffles, foie gras and a wonderful choice of tree fruit … which really tastes!
