PRACTICALITIES

Your rental fee includes all linen (sheets, towels, pool towels, etc), all electricity except from nov-april, and changeover cleaning costs, and also the French taxe de sejour. Once you have booked, we will send you more detailed information about what you will find at the tower.

Lettings are from Saturday (4.00pm) to Saturday (10.00 am). Off season lettings can be more flexible; just let us know what dates you would like, though we have a minimum stay of 4 nights because of the costs to us of a changeover.

It should also be appreciated that the stairs up to the attic are steeper than standard stairs and are therefore unsuitable for young children or anyone who has difficulty walking. For this reason, we do not accept bookings which include children under 10 years old without prior discussion.

Payment Terms

25% Deposit due on booking confirmation. Remaining 75% payable 8 weeks before rental starts. Security deposit payable with final payment* BALANCE TO PAY 8 weeks before rental starts * Your security deposit will be repaid after your stay so long as no damages have occurred. Payment by bank transfer is preferred. We will respond to your booking request to confirm your details and advise on payment. If you wish to pay by cheque, please confirm this in the 'additional messages' section and we will get in touch with the correct details. You are advised to take out a Travel Insurance Policy with a cancellation clause which may enable you to recover non-refundable monies in the event of your not being able to travel to the Tower.

LOCATION

The tower is just outside Saint-Maime-de-Péreyrol, a tiny village situated in the heart of the Dordogne region of France. It is halfway between the historic cities of Périgueux and Bergerac, and is 8km from the thriving market town of Vergt which is the region’s strawberry-growing capital.

Nearest airports: Bergerac (about 35 minutes’ drive), and Bordeaux (about 1½ hour’s drive).

Nearest Railways: Bergerac (about 30 minutes’ drive), and Périgueux (about 30 mins drive). Car hire available at both railway stations.

Driving: Car hire is available at both airports. It takes about 10 hours to drive from Calais or Zeebrugge using the autoroutes.

WHEN TO VISIT

The tower offers delights that change throughout the year. Summer is the most popular season, but at other time there are local festivals, specialist markets, concerts and more, and the ambience of the tower changes with the seasons. Weddings happen all year round and our tower has hosted many honeymoon couples and special anniversaries.

Spring

From March-April onwards, the orchids start flowering. In the famous markets of the Dordogne, early vegetables and fruit appear. In May there is a colourful annual strawberry festival at the nearby town of Vergt – centre of the Dordogne strawberry growers. Taste a slice of the 10 metre wide strawberry tart! The pool is opened in mid May.

Summer

The most popular time for visitors, with lazy days by the pool enjoying delicious meals of Perigord specialities and plenty of wine to sample. The markets are at their best, with night markets in peak season. Antique and flea markets are regularly advertised and are great fun.

Autumn

Our local village hosts a pumpkin festival in October, the wine growers are harvesting their grapes, the autumn colours are ablaze around the tower, and late summer fruits abound. The pool is usually closed in mid-October.

Winter

Winter is a time for cosy days by the wood-burning stove, but it is possible to eat outside on the terrace on many bright winter days. The truffle hunters are out and a small truffle for two people is not expensive when bought direct from the hunter at the fabulous winter markets where you can sit and enjoy oysters and a glass of white wine and watch the world go by.
